This summer is drawing to a speedway finish across the checkered flag. The chill of fall fills the still evenings. Tomatoes turn red, apples blushing yellow, green, and red hang barely there as if a whisper could drop them. Muscadine wild grapes ready for the plucking and juicing. Cucumbers curling from the extremes of hot days and cool nights are ready for pickling. Labor Day is the day we take to give thanks for the eight-hour day, the 15 minute break, and the many that have died in the struggle. I intend to celebrate with the fruits of my many labors.
